Unpacking Your Wreath
When you order one of our wreaths, we take great care to pack it with love and care. Because we know that the journey may be long and treacherous (I know y’all have seen those crazy videos with deliverymen roughhousing packages!), we make every attempt to make sure that you wreath is secure in the box and looks just as beautiful as it did on the design table. But please be mindful, that once the box leaves our hands, we have no control over how your box is handled. We pack your wreath snuggly in the box so that it does not have room to slide around and we also secure the frame to the inside of the box to keep it in place.
Once your wreath arrives, you can carefully untwist the pipe cleaner securing your wreath to the inside of the shipping box. You can keep the pipe cleaners attached to the box in order to wire your wreath back in the box for storage later. Your wreath is fairly sturdy, so don’t worry about doing a little man-handling. All the ribbons and bows are wired (meaning they are made with wire on the edges) and can be reshaped and fluffed.
Your wreath will also come with a set of written care instructions for you to keep to reference later. Weather Exposure
The materials used in your Wreaths by BrendaLee wreath are considered durable to moderate outdoor exposure. So, what does that mean? I suggest hanging your wreath on a door that has a slight overhang to protect it from the elements. Also, if you know of an approaching rain storm where there will be sheets of horizontal rain and a lot of wind, I would bring your wreath indoors until the storm passes. For light showers, it will be fine.
Unfortunately, over time as with anything left outside in the sun, your wreath will fade. Direct sunlight for hours on end is not a friend to your wreath. There will also be some materials that fade faster than others. This is also normal. This is just a side effect of being outside in the elements. But you should get many seasons out of your wreath before this happens. If you purchase a wreath that was made to last more than one season (made with both spring and summer flowers or a wreath from our year-round section), your wreath may fade quicker due to its longer exposure time.
Remember that wreaths don’t have to be displayed outside. Our wreaths are works of art and can hang anywhere in your home. Over your mantle, on an inside door, on the wall, or over a mirror are just a few other places you can hang your wreath to protect it from the elements.
Dusting Your Wreath
Unfortunately if used outside, your wreath will collect dust and pollen. Springtime in Houston is the worst as most things outside will collect layers of that noxious yellow powder. But don’t fear, you can use a hair dryer on the lowest and coolest setting and blow the dust or pollen off. You can also try using a small artist’s brush to brush some of the dirt and pollen off.
Don’t forget to fluff your bow and you’re good to go. It’s best to dust off your wreath before storing it. Dust and pollen left on for long periods of time can and will damage your wreath.
Deco Mesh
Most of the wreaths we make are made from deco mesh. Deco mesh is a material that is very versatile and what makes our wreaths have that voluptuous look. What can I say, we love “big” in Texas. The dark side of deco mesh is that it frays. It is just part of the package with this type of material. There is no stopping it. The more you handle the material, the more you will see fraying. We do our best to handle the material in a way that prevents fraying or minimizes it. The truth, though, is that no matter what we do, deco mesh will fray. If you see any fraying in your wreath, you can trim the frayed edge with a sharp pair of scissors or tuck the frayed edge back into the wreath. It’s best not to handle it too much or you risk making the fraying worse.
Bow
Your bow will need to be reshaped, fluffed or the tails tucked occasionally due to wind or just everyday life. I don’t get much wind, but people just can’t help themselves and touch my wreaths. This too can cause the ribbons to be squashed or flattened. Shaping your bow should be no problem since the ribbon is wired.
Storing your Wreath
The box your wreath was shipped in makes a great storage container. I recommend lining the corrugated shipping box with tissue paper first in order to keep the boxes’ acidic properties from bleeding onto any silk florals. I personally store my wreaths hanging from a rack I made. Using a clear plastic bag, drape it over the wreath and cut a hole in the bag so that the wreaths hanger can come through. Then, I use an S hanger to hang from my rack. Beware of storing your wreath in your garage or attic that if it is not climate-controlled. Too much heat can ruin your wreath.
