5 Ways to Display a Wreath That’s NOT on your Front Door

Most people think wreaths are JUST for front doors. That is simply not the case anymore with so many custom options and designs. Wreaths can be made for absolutely every occasion. Wreaths are so versatile and can be displayed just about anywhere in your home. Displaying your custom wreath inside your home can help protect it and increase the life of your wreath.

Now, not every door is suitable for a wreath or door hanger for many reasons but that shouldn’t stop you from decorating with wreaths. My door, for example, is what I call a “wreath killer.” It gets sooo much direct sunlight that it ruins deco mesh wreaths. Bright colored deco meshes and ornaments fade quickly on my door. I also have a black door which gets extremely hot in the summer and Texas summers are no joke (think hell on earth). Of course, all of this doesn’t stop me from hanging some beautiful door decor because the entry into your home should feel warm and welcoming. I just try to be mindful of switching out the wreaths pretty often and bringing them inside if the weather is going to be bad.

A handmade custom wreath is an investment. And if you’ve purchased a custom piece, then you picked it because it had some special meaning to you. So put it where you can enjoy it the most!

So, here’s 5 ways you can display your wreath that aren’t your front door and protect your wreath from the elements to help it last for many, many years to come. BTW – I am not a professional photographer so excuse my not-so-picturesque pictures!

1. Over Your Fireplace

Make your wreath the focal point of your fireplace mantle. This is a great way to display your wreath in a unique way. This works really well for Christmas wreaths but also can work for your everyday decor especially if you are going for a rustic farmhouse look. Bring the space over your fireplace to life with a unique, handcrafted statement piece that all your guests will ask about.

2. Over a Mirror

I have to admit that I had never thought about hanging a wreath over a mirror but after I tried it, I had to admit I really loved the look. It just adds a touch of elegance especially if you have a large ornate mirror like I do but even small, plain framed mirrors could use a wreath. I used a suction cup wreath hook (about $1 at Michaels) to hang my wreath on the mirror that’s over my entranceway table. It’s the first thing that people see when they enter my house. Because the hook is clear and hidden, it gives it the illusion that the wreath is suspended magically over the mirror. You could also use a wide ribbon to hang the wreath over the top of your mirror. I love this idea for Christmas wreaths!

3. On the Wall

Looking for something to fill some wall space? Hang that wreath on an empty wall by itself or surround it with family portraits or coordinating artwork. Change your wreath with the seasons/holidays or use an everyday wreath. Have some wall space over a desk, hang a wreath. Wood bead wreaths (like this one) and grapevine wreaths look great on walls. It’s an easy way to add some warmth to an office, dorm room, bedroom or nursery.

On an Easel or Wreath Stand

I actually use my easel to work on my wreaths but in a corner or near the fireplace that easel looks like it’s displaying my work of art. My easel is a tall easel made for painting but you could get a shorter tabletop easel or wreath holder to display your wreath closer to the ground. An easel is great if you don’t have any wall or door space

5. On an Inside/Bedroom Door

If you really feel that wreaths are for doors, hang your wreath on an inside door. Decorate bedroom doors with wreaths that match the personalities or decor of that bedroom. Make your 1/2 bathroom easy to find by placing a wreath on the door and you can tell guests, “the Bathroom is the door with the pretty wreath on it.”

There you have it. 5 options for displaying your wreath and also protecting it from the outside elements! Of course, wreaths and door hangers look beautiful on your front door and welcome your guests with style and warmth.
